Although Lexus has a diverse lineup of vehicles, including SUVs, sedans, and even luxury minivans in some markets, one category remains absent from its lineup: pickup trucks. However, American tuning company Meso Customs decided to present a practical concept of what a luxury pickup truck bearing the Lexus badge could look like, through the unique TX1 project.
The TX1 truck is based on the fourth-generation Toyota Tacoma, but it has received extensive design modifications inspired by the Lexus GX 550, making it look as if it came straight out of a design studio belonging to the Japanese luxury brand.
This one-off version was unveiled during the 2026 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, USA, after its idea began as a 3D digital design created by artist LcmaDevids. The idea impressed the tuning company's team, who decided to turn the virtual design into a real vehicle, in a project that took nearly a full year to transform the Tacoma into a truck with a luxury Lexus character.
Exterior Design Combining Tacoma and Lexus GX 550
The front fascia of the TX1 truck gets most of its features from the Lexus GX 550, including the front grille, headlights, and hood. The Lexus logo also stands out clearly at the front, alongside the horizontal lines of the grille that give the truck a distinctive identity.
The front bumper was redesigned to fit the wide body, while the truck retained the doors and cabin glass from the Toyota Tacoma, replacing the side mirrors with ones inspired by Lexus vehicles.
The modifications were not limited to traditional parts, as the company redesigned sections of the front and rear, and used a range of components manufactured with 3D printing technology, relying on professional digital engineering designs.
The truck was also equipped with wide fender flares, with body-colored extensions, giving it a more powerful and muscular appearance compared to the standard Tacoma version.
Innovative Rear and Usable Additional Seats
The rear carries some of the most distinctive details in the TX1 project, as it received a full-width LED light bar inspired by the Lexus GX 550, along with a custom truck bed that integrates some design features of the SUV's tailgate.
A striking detail is that the modified tailgate remains fully usable thanks to latches derived from Rivian vehicles, and it can also be converted into an additional rear-facing seat, equipped with heated seats and Bluetooth speakers.
Robust Off-Road Equipment
The American tuning company did not just give the truck a luxury appearance, but also worked to enhance its off-road driving capabilities.
It was also equipped with massive 38-inch tires, wheels featuring upgraded braking technology, and a set of auxiliary lighting units.
The additional LED lights are distributed on the roof, front bumper, and around the side mirrors, as well as a rally-inspired light bar above the windshield, with extra lighting equipment integrated into the rear.
To highlight the adventurous nature of the project, the company also displayed a color-matched Honda Grom motorcycle inside the truck bed, in a concept that combines luxury with outdoor activities.
Toyota Tacoma Engine Without Major Changes
Despite the Lexus-inspired design, the TX1 did not receive a new engine or a different drivetrain, as it retained the original Toyota Tacoma engine, which is a turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine.
However, the company added an SXTH Element CPLT air intake system, along with a front intercooler, but did not reveal horsepower or torque figures after these modifications, so there is no confirmed information on the extent of the performance improvement.
Will the Lexus TX1 Truck Become a Commercial Production Vehicle?
Despite the striking appearance of the TX1 truck, there are no indications that Lexus plans to commercially produce a similar pickup truck at this time.
Meso Customs confirmed that the project is a one-of-a-kind build, not a modification package that customers can order to install on their vehicles. Furthermore, neither Toyota nor Lexus participated in developing the truck or executing the project.
Nevertheless, the idea of introducing a luxury pickup truck from Lexus seems conceivable, especially since the Toyota Tacoma provides a suitable technical platform within the mid-size truck category, while the Lexus GX 550 offers the luxury exterior design that can be built upon.
If Lexus decides to enter this category in the future, it could include a more luxurious interior cabin, with high-quality materials and better sound insulation, alongside the comfort features known in the Japanese brand's vehicles.
TX1: An Exceptional Idea Turned Into a Real Project
For now, the TX1 remains just an innovative vision of what a Lexus pickup truck could look like, and is displayed within the Toyo Tires Treadpass booth at the 2026 SEMA Show, giving visitors the opportunity to see this project that turns an unconventional idea into a real vehicle.
Perhaps this project represents an opportunity to draw Lexus's attention to the existence of space in its future lineup for a pickup truck that combines luxury with strong off-road capabilities.
